YAG Laser in Vienna
Ophthalmic assessment and consultation for posterior capsule opacification and other possible YAG laser indications.

What is posterior capsule opacification?
After cataract surgery, the posterior lens capsule can become cloudy over time. Vision may become blurred again or sensitivity to glare may increase.
Typical symptoms
- Blurred vision returning
- Glare or hazy vision
- Reduced contrast
- Symptoms after previous cataract surgery
Before YAG laser treatment
- Slit-lamp examination
- Assessment of the intraocular lens and capsule
- Exclusion of other causes
- Individual counselling
Targeted laser treatment after precise diagnosis
YAG laser treatment is appropriate only when symptoms are actually caused by clinically relevant capsule clouding or another suitable indication.
No. The natural lens was already replaced during cataract surgery. Posterior capsule opacification affects the capsule behind the intraocular lens.
Follow-up depends on the findings, treatment and individual risk.

How YAG capsulotomy is performed
First, we confirm that the visual deterioration is actually caused by clouding of the posterior lens capsule. When indicated, an Nd:YAG laser creates an opening in the cloudy capsule so that light can again reach the retina unobstructed.
Possible risks & follow-up
Temporary inflammation or an increase in intraocular pressure can occur. Rare complications include macular oedema, retinal tear or retinal detachment; small laser marks on the intraocular lens are also possible. Follow-up is planned individually according to the findings and risk profile.
