When is an eye examination useful?
Preventive examinations
Regular eye examinations can help detect changes before they cause noticeable symptoms. The appropriate interval depends on age, family history, previous findings and individual risk factors.
Changes in vision
Blurred vision, glare, reading difficulties, changes in spectacle prescription or new visual symptoms should be assessed by an ophthalmologist.
Glaucoma screening
Assessment may include intraocular pressure measurement, optic nerve examination, visual field testing and OCT imaging when clinically indicated.
