Cataract surgery and premium lens options in Vienna
Personal care

Why choose a private cataract consultation?

Cataract surgery involves more than replacing a cloudy lens. Your vision goals and choice of artificial lens can affect how you see at a distance, at a screen or when reading after surgery. During a private consultation, we take time to discuss your daily visual needs, work requirements and preferences.

One surgeon

Dr. Alkhalde accompanies your examination and lens decision, personally performs the operation and coordinates follow-up care.

Individual lens selection

Standard, toric and other premium lenses are discussed according to your eye findings and vision requirements.

Realistic vision goals

Benefits, limitations, possible visual side effects and the expected need for glasses are explained before you decide.

Premium lenses

Which intraocular lens suits my eyes?

Monofocal lens

An established artificial lens with one main focus distance. Glasses may still be needed for other distances.

Toric lens

For suitable patients, a toric lens may also correct significant corneal astigmatism. Careful measurements are essential.

EDOF / multifocal options

Depending on your eye findings and visual needs, lenses offering an extended range of focus or multiple focus distances may be considered. They are not suitable for every eye.

A specific lens recommendation is made only after a complete eye examination and the necessary measurements. Freedom from glasses or a particular visual result cannot be guaranteed.

Costs & planning

How much does private cataract surgery in Vienna cost?

Costs depend on the chosen intraocular lens, required examinations and your individual surgical plan. A fixed price without an examination would not reflect these differences.

Consultation & diagnostics

Clarify the costs of your private consultation, preoperative examination and necessary measurements in advance.

Lens & surgery

Discuss whether your chosen premium lens, operation or treatment at the hospital involves separate charges.

Follow-up & insurance

Ask which follow-up appointments are included and which services your public or supplementary insurance covers in your case.

Before deciding, discuss the expected total costs and ask which services are included. See health insurance and costs for information about publicly insured services.

Frequently asked questions

Private cataract surgery & premium lenses

Is a premium lens suitable for every patient?

No. Your retina, optic nerve, cornea, eye surface, visual habits and other factors matter when selecting a lens. Suitability is assessed individually.

Can a toric lens correct my astigmatism?

In suitable eyes, a toric intraocular lens can reduce significant corneal astigmatism. Measurements help determine whether it is appropriate.

Will I be completely free of glasses after a premium lens?

The aim may be to reduce dependence on glasses, but complete freedom from glasses cannot be guaranteed. The expected result depends on the lens and your eye findings, among other factors.

Where is the operation performed?

OA Dr. Ammar Alkhalde performs cataract surgery at Klinik Hietzing. Your preoperative examination and personal consultation take place at Augenzentrum Wien Nord in 1210 Vienna.

Is cataract surgery also available through public health insurance?

Yes. In addition to private treatment, cataract surgery is available through public health insurance when medically indicated. See our general cataract page for information.
