What happens at an urgent appointment?
Targeted initial examination
Depending on the symptoms, the examination may include visual acuity, pupil reactions, intraocular pressure, the anterior segment and the retina. For injuries, flashes, new shadows or sudden visual deterioration, the examination specifically focuses on possible urgent causes.
When should I go directly to an emergency department?
Severe eye injuries, chemical burns, sudden major loss of vision, severe pain with nausea, or a new “curtain” in the visual field can be ophthalmic emergencies. In these situations, do not wait for a regular practice appointment.
